A Sparkling Home is in Your Near Future
As the weather starts to warm up it’s likely that you’re getting the itch to air out your home and get it ready for the warmer months ahead. Unfortunately, with the need to clean, comes inhaling chemical fumes associated with the not so healthy cleaning supplies. But fear not! With a few items you probably already have (lemons and more lemons) in your home, you can make some natural cleaning products to get every surface of your home spotless.
Here’s the roundup:
- White vinegar
- Lemons
- Baking Soda
- Cornstarch
The formulas:
All purpose cleaner: Mix ½ cup vinegar and ¼ cup baking soda with 2 liters of water. Add in the peels of two lemons and one orange. Let sit for 24 hours then remove peels and add to a spray bottle. This can be used on most surfaces (do a small test spot on an area that isn’t noticeable). Just don’t use on marble!
Carpet Stains: Mix equal part water and vinegar into a spray bottle. Spray directly onto carpet and let sit for a few minutes. Once it’s had time to soak into the stain, scrub the area with warm soapy water.
If you have new stains, sprinkle cornstarch onto the stain and wait 15-20 minutes before vacuuming.
Wooden Cutting Boards: Cut a lemon in half and sprinkle it with salt. Rub the salted lemon first with the grain and then against it. Let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe with a dry cloth.
Toilet Bowl Cleaner: Mix ¼ cup baking soda and 1 cup vinegar, pour into toilet bowl and let it sit for a few minutes. Scrub with a toilet brush and flush.
Tub and Tile Cleaner: Mix equal parts baking soda and water until it forms a paste. Use an old toothbrush to dip in the paster and scrub grout lines. Once you have cleaned the grout lines add ¼ cup of your all purpose cleaner to the leftover past and spray the tiles. Use a microfiber cloth or old t-shirt to scrub. The rinse clean.
Window Cleaner: Mix 2 teaspoons of white vinegar with 1 liter of warm water. Use crumpled black and white newspaper to clean.
Use the methods for a sparkling home!
